Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about checking a quote, your privacy, and how contractors connect. Still stuck? Use the help button at the bottom of any page.

Do I have to pay to check a roofing quote?

No. Checking a quote on QuoteVya is completely free, and you do not even need to log in. Upload your estimate, confirm what we read, and get your Clarity Score, missing-scope flags, and a fair-range estimate — no charge, no account required.

Do I have to create an account?

No login is required to check a quote. You only need an account if you want to post a project for local roofers to bid on, or to track your projects and accepted introductions in My Projects.

What is a Clarity Score?

The Clarity Score is a 0–100 rating of how complete and transparent your quote is. It rewards clearly stated pricing, a measured roof size, tear-off scope, warranty terms, and payment milestones — and flags what is missing or vague so you know what to ask before signing.

Is my contact information shared with contractors?

Never automatically. When you post a project, contractors see the scope, photos, and ZIP — but not your name, phone, or email. Your details are only shared after you explicitly accept a contractor’s introduction.

How do contractors get paid, and what does it cost them?

Contractors are charged a flat $65 only when a homeowner accepts their introduction. There is no subscription and no paying for unqualified leads. They pay only for a real, mutual connection. A card is kept securely on file and charged only on a yes.

Where does the local pricing data come from?

Where we have enough verified data (5+ local quotes or bids submitted through QuoteVya), we show a verified local range. Elsewhere, we show a planning estimate built from published national 2025–2026 roofing cost data, adjusted for your region, and label it clearly. We exclude insurance-funded quotes from the cash-market benchmark.

What areas does QuoteVya cover?

QuoteVya works anywhere in the U.S. Quote checks and planning estimates are available nationwide. Verified local price ranges and the number of contractors bidding depend on how much activity there is in your area, and both are growing.

What if I already have a quote but want a second opinion?

Upload it on the Check a Quote page. You will get a Clarity Score, a list of questions to ask your contractor, and a fair-range estimate so you can negotiate or walk away with confidence — all free and private.

What if I do not have a quote yet?

Use the free Cost Estimator to get a planning estimate based on your roof size and material, or post your project and let local roofers submit competing bids.

My roof is an insurance claim. What should I know?

Insurance roof estimates usually show RCV (replacement cost value, the full cost to replace) and ACV (actual cash value, which is RCV minus depreciation for age and wear). Many policies pay ACV first and release the withheld depreciation after the work is done. Your deductible is always your responsibility. A supplement is a contractor's request to the insurer for items missed in the original estimate. Rules vary by state. For example, Colorado (SB12-038, C.R.S. 6-22-101 et seq.) requires a written roofing contract, lets you cancel within 72 hours of signing, lets you cancel within 72 hours of receiving written notice that your claim was denied in whole or in part, and bars contractors from paying or waiving your deductible. Texas and several other states also prohibit deductible waivers. Check your state's rules or ask your insurer. This is general information, not legal advice.
